There’s one aspect of outdoor kitchens that I think nobody is talking about enough. And that’s this:
Coziness.
Let me explain.
I’ve always loved the idea of bringing the coziness of indoors to the great outdoors in order to spend more time in nature, and over the last few years, I’ve had the privilege of chatting with so many others who feel the same way.
I’d love to be able to incorporate that style into my own outdoor kitchen. I haven’t quite achieved that yet, but I’m always on the lookout for new finds and interesting pieces that would work well or any other ways and means to get that look.
My first and biggest inspiration for this whole outlook is someone I’m sure you’ve never heard of. It’s photographer (and interior designer) Paul Massey, who uses reclaimed and rustic natural elements in his interior design projects.
They’re just incredible to look at (and imagine living in!). He has such a talent for layering textures, and seamlessly blending different styles to create cohesive, sophisticated spaces. He often incorporates reclaimed wood, stone, and metal into his designs, which adds character and a real sense of history to his spaces.
Just imagine bringing this feeling to an outdoor kitchen. I bet you’re a convert now!
As you’d expect, I’m an active member of a few online communities in this space and love connecting with others who share my interest in outdoor kitchens and living spaces. You’ll find me active on Pinterest, Reddit, and in Facebook groups, sharing ideas and inspiration with others who share my love for these spaces and hearing about their own experiences.
I’ve learned a lot from those conversations as well as from my own experiences, I’ve also taken copious notes on what works and what doesn’t. I’m excited to share all that with you.
So, if you’re looking for inspiration for your own outdoor kitchen, want to learn about the latest trends, or simply want to chat with someone who’s as obsessed about these spaces as me, I’m here for you.

As for a little more about me, I’m also proud of my Italian ancestry. I remember my grandfather’s brick oven in their backyard for making pizza. That was decades before outdoor kitchens became popular. And let me tell you, his pizzas were amazing.
Outdoor cooking provides an experience that just can’t be replicated indoors. Can’t say it enough, there’s something about being outside, surrounded by nature, and cooking with friends and family that’s special.
It’s all about the pure joy of cooking using fresh ingredients. Add to that the great outdoors, and that’s where the real magic happens.
My goal for this year is to put in a herb garden to the side of my outdoor kitchen, I have dreams of reaching out and grabbing a handful of basil or parsley to add to my favorite dishes.
